1954 Johnson Trouble Shooting

So I have a 1954 Johnson Seahorse 5.5 and I can’t identity the problem with it. The thing has spark and it also has compression. Do you think it would have to do with me just cleaning the carburetor and it will start or would there be more problems. I am very new with this kind of stuff so any advice/information would be awesome.

So when did it run last ? ----A week ago or 50 years ago ?-----Does spark jump a gap of 5/16" or so on a test device, yes or no ?----Does the primer button on the tank fill the carburetor with fuel , yes or no ?

Do you have the correct dual hose tank...does it run if you squirt fuel into the carburetor throat?

I don’t know about the spark but there is fuel getting in the carb. I think it ran about 20-30 years ago. It has a duel hose tank (pressurized tank) the primer button on the tank does fill the carb.

I also bought a carb kit and going to clean it. Would that fix it?

Remove recoil starter.----Remove 3 screws and parts on top of flywheel.-----Inspect coils through hole in the flywheel.----If they are cracked you need new ones.
