1954 25hp Flooding Bad

Hey guys,

trying to get this old outboard running. I did the fuel pump upgrade, bought a carb kit. The only new parts I could see to replace were the needle and seat assembly. Not alot to it. Rest were gaskets and seals for the fast and idle speed adjustments, but they aren't leaking.

When cranking fuel comes out the front of the carb. I got it running the other day, but only on fast speed, could not get it to idle. Took it apart today, made sure float was not sticking and closed needle when level. Also put the float in some gas and it floats just fine. Now I can not even get it to start and run fast speed again. I am a jack of all trades, but seem to be failing with this 2stroke engine.

Test for spark !-------------Spark must be able to jump a gap of 1/4" with ease.---When starting one of these with choke " on " a bit of fuel will run out the carburetor throat and that is normal.

It has spark. I pulled a plug and held it against the block to test. It ran on fast yesterday, but died on idle. Took carb apart to inspect float. Choke is off.
When I prime the bulb, gas goes straight to carb and drips out of carb. Should the needle prevent that?

Carb kit directed me to back out the slow speed valve 1 turn and the high speed valve 2 turns. Does that sound about right?

Laying a plug on the block is not a very good test at all !---------Float valve should stop fuel leaking out.----------Slow speed needle is the upper one 1-1/2 turn out and high speed one turn out to start the motor.---Then adjust as need be after motor warms up.

Either the float level is incorrect OR (and this happens often) the float chamber vent is clogged with some sort of debris, usually from ants or mud wasps.

With the carburetor body held upside down, the float being viewed from the side, adjust the float so that the free end of the float (the end opposite the hinge pin) is ever so slightly higher (just ever so slightly off level) than the other end. And when viewed from the end, make sure it is not cocked.
