1953 tn28 assembly question

At top of driveshaft is a spring, washer and plastic seal with o-ring. What sits on top of drive shaft first, the washer or plastic seal? And how is seal oriented. The o-ring is closer to one side of the flat plastic seal that the other. Need assembly diagram. Parts manual does not specify order of installation.

I thought there was a washer with a cork gasket on the top too. Cup washer then spring then the oring which fits in the carbon seal then carbon seal followed by the washer and cork gasket if I remember correctly.

Depends on whether the seal update kit is installed. Showing the kit and also the original.

Thank you all for the replies to my question. I have the newer kit and this is exactly what I needed. fdrgator you nailed it! Thanks

Another question regarding the 1953 TN 28. Is it un-advisable to use Modern oil such as evenrude's tcw3 2 cycle oil? Should I only use SAE 40 wt as the manual suggests if I can even find this oil? Thoughts?

. I think I spoke too soon. Seal then washer then spring on driveshaft does not work as the spring is larger diameter than the pressed collar on the drive shaft and simply slips over it. Were there 2 washers in this kit....I only found one on original disassembly. Houston, we have a problem.

I believe originally it was 16:1 Myself, I wouldn't go more then 24:1 but that just me. Others will chime in on this.
TCW-3 in any quality brand will be fine.
