i have recived a1953 3 1/2 horse evinrude lightwin that has been sitting for awhile, i have replaced the coils its getting a good spark on both cylinders but it wont start, any good steps i should follow to get this motor running

Remove the carburator and clean it, best is to install new gaskets (carb repairkit). Also check the fueltank for dirt. Now (if the engine has good compression) the engine will run! It is a good thing to replace the impeller from tha waterpump as well because the engine has sitting for awhile.

Thanks for the reply!! Im going to take the carb off today and clean it. Any idea what the gas/oil ratio is i have read 24:1 is that correct?

That motor needs 16to1 mix!
It has plain bronze bearings and they need oil.
The newer motors with roller bearings can survive on 50/1.
Todays oils are cleaner and don't produce carbon like the old 30wt non detergent used to.
A little bit of oil is cheaper than an engine rebuild.
Good Luck with that little classic.
