I traded for this 1952 evinrude 25hp model 2003, could anyone tell me where I can get some info on it? the previous owner said it was a long shaft, but its 3 inches shorter than my 9.5 long, and 2 inches longer than my short shaft elgin was. what is it? that was what I traded for it. will this work on a 20 inch transom? I hope to get it running, it"s in really good shape, thanks, mike.

Excellent , lightweight , rugged motors.-----Not many long shaft models made.------Does it have a 5" spacer piece between the lower unit and exhaust housing ??-------Would require a " rare " extension piece as water goes through it ( no water tube ) on those motors.

looks like a medium shaft? if there ever was such an animal. well today I hooked it up the pressure tank still works, just had to replace the hoses. this motor has been sitting for over 20 yrs. it wanted to start but would backfire sometimes. then it would start but only run a few seconds and quit. so I took the carb. apart and cleaned it. wasn"t really dirty tho. what would make it backfire, my spark tester shows bright white spark, but I haven"t pulled the flywheel yet. do I have to ckeck the point gap? it there much diff. between a 52 and 55, my book anly goes back to 1955? thanks, mike

cleaned carb and filter, pulled flywheel, suprise, new coils and points and condensers, got it started, running good now. must have been running to lean. does anyone know what differences there are between a 1955 and a 1952? my book only goes back to 1955. I think I got the best of that trade. not to much info on pre 1955. on the web.

I had a 25 hp johnson of the same vintage and I seem to remember that the throttle and carburetor linkage used a cable system. I believe the 1955 motor eliminated that system and used gears instead.

well took it out last night and started out ok but starts popping like to lean again after a few min. may need a rebuild on carb., also bottom plug gets carboned up, top plug ok, any thoughts?
