18hp bluecstripe merc

I have an old 18hp merc blue stripe. Serial # 6172021 cant find a year or anything for the motor. It doesnt have a shallow water drive on it and the only kit i can find is for 85 and newer. If anyone could tell me the year or how to intstall a shallow water drive besides a 2x4 i would greatly appreciate it.
 
Give Tim's Outboard in Hackensack MN a call at 218 682 2331, talk to Mike or Dan. They can send you the used parts, if its possible to create the shallow water drive you desire. Tell 'em Tim sent you. I have done some conversions myself over the years, but the Mercs can be more challenging than OMC's, often due to frequent design changes between model years.

Thanks for the info, i finally got ahold of Mercury and it is an 83, they do not make a kit for the shallow water drive. I will call them though, that is right next to my cabin. Thanks again.
