Howdy, newbie here! We have the chance to purchase the above boat but the current owners advise "Recently we lost forward drive from the gearbox and when we went to take her out the water last week*the steering had seized. Reverse is still*fine." Should we steer clear? Your advice is most welcomed

You didn't say what year engine and how much to purchase. I buy stuff like that all the time, granted I can repair them and pay next to nothing for them. If think you can repair it yourself and can by it cheap, go for it. If you are going to have to pay someone to fix it, might be best to pass on it.

Have asked the owner the current year as not on the advert but the cost of the boat is approx $3500 ... how much do you think repair might be?

You really did not give enough information to give a good answer. If you don't know how to fix it yourself, you better have it checked by mechanic. It could run into quite a bit of money. It's up to you.

As stated above, not enough info. But in this part of the country the engine as described wouldn't be worth more than 200-300 dollars.
