You may be able to get a better price through one of the retailers.
I purchased a 318 long block from marinepowerservices in NJ. It was delivered from the Marshall engine ware house in Atlanta within two days at a lower price.
You just need to confirm the overhaul agency before you buy.

I bought two GM 350 long blocks from them for my last boat. Free delivery since I'm in New England. I was replacing two GM 327s and swapping the pumps, brackets and other parts and of course, there were issues. The guys at Marine Engines (1800RUNSNEW) knew exactly what I was talking about when I called and answered every question. They told me to "Keep calling until you get them running." Great service. When I sold the boat, those two 350s had almost 900 hours on them without any problems.

I bought a FirstMate 318 from them. I originally called them becuase they had a good price and were in New England (I picked it up). I ended up dealing directly with the owner who was more than willing to invest the time in answering questions, etc. I'm sure most reman's come with a gasket kit but the FelPro kit that came with the FirstMate was super-complete (including some extras for possible variations).

I hope I'm not on the market for a new motor any time soon but, if I were, I'd go back to them.
