18 hp impeller not working

The impeller of my 18hp is not working and I do not understand why. Water is not being pumped out..I submerged it in water at a good enough level, but its still not working.

Water must be over the pump in order for it to work.-----Water just covering the intake is not good enuff.----Did you install a new impeller ?-------Not much can go wrong with these ultra simple pumps !

Did you just replace the impeller? allways turn the driveshaft clockwise when you install the impeller. You can test it in a barrel with a drill adapted to the driveshaft using a piece of hose and socket with extension chucked in the drill. Water should gush out the top of the pump when you submerge it in the barrel and spin the driveshaft clockwise. What year is the motor? Maybe pull the thermostat out and see if water is getting to the top of the motor?

if you changed the impeller did you make shur the key way was in place if not the drive shaft will spin but not the impeller

I replaced the impeller and turned the driveshaft, and it worked, finally!
