Hi, hope someone here has had similar symptoms. My 175 Black Max runs great at first, at full throttle it will run extremely well for a minute or so. It will start and idle like a new motor. In neutral, no issues either. After a minute or so at full throttle, on the water, it loses some power. If I run at about a 1/3 throttle for a minute or so, it will run great with full power again. And so it goes on. At first today, it did not run well at all, past idle. It would die when I opened the throttle even a little, but I found some wires touching each other on the idle speed stabilizer. After I separated these bad wires, it ran well but the symptoms above then appeared, where it became intermittent. The fuel system was cleaned well, I have run a tank of fuel with fuel system cleaner added. I even used carburettor cleaner trying to sort this. The last time I ran it, I ran it dry afterwards. I start it in water every weekend to keep things unblocked, and run it dry afterwards, since I know what stagnant fuel does to jet openings. After the fuel system cleaner, I ran a clean fresh tank but this intermittent problem persists. When it has been running for a while and loses power as explained above, pumping the fuel bulb does not help, so I doubt that it is a bad fuel pump. The bulb remains quite hard anyway, even though I know this is not so important. As a test, can I remove the idle speed stabilizer and run it? Or will this motor not run without the idle speed stabilizer at all?
Anyone had these symptoms before? What did you find?
Thanks for any assistance. Peter.
