175 Evinrude Fast strike Shutting off

I have a 1995 evinrude fastst

I have a 1995 evinrude faststrike that shuts off when I get up on plane. I tried to duplicate the problem with a motor flusher attached to it but it wouldn't do it. I checked all connections and they were tight. The only thing that I noticed was that the oil reservoir was very low. Will the engine shut itself down if the oil runs down and doesn't get to the engine. I didn't hear an alarm when it shuts down but I know my alarm works because I tested it.

" Had similar problem. Mine turned out to be powerpack and would only occur after engine had warmed up. Ground water thru flusher (cool water) and motor under no load may not duplicate. I have a 94 175 Fast Strike and have gone thru 2 powerpacks. Have been told p'pack can kill 1 or more cylinders. First time, acted exactly per your desciption. Last time, only dropped one cylinder after warming up. All cylinders fired fine while on the trailer.

" I have the 98 175 Intruder and following the advice of fishnrod and Sparky was able to pin point the problem to one of the coil packs. Mine was not shutting down, only dropping one cylinder. Also following fishinrod's know how I was able to replace it myself. Couldn't believe how easy it was.
