Hi There,

I would appreciate any advise you can give me on this matter. I have water comming out of the side of the leg when I run the engine, instead of going up into the block and spitting out of the back. I believe the problem is the rubber grommet at the top of the copper pipe that runs from the gearbox up into the leg is damaged and I have a replacement part for it. The problem I am having is I can't get the copper pipe out in order to replace it. Is the something I need to do other than pull on it?

Many Thanks

I have only replaced the upper water grommet on a 15 so I may be speaking out of turn here, but on my motor the tube had to be removed from the top as it has a flange that would keep it from being pulled out from the bottom. Someone will be along and confirm but if it is similar to the 15s you will have to pull the powerhead to get at the grommet.

The tube merely pulls out. It probably has stuck itself to the old rubber. The fun begins when you try to replace the grommet. There was a special tool for that, which didn't work worth a hoot. The poke-and-prod method works best.

Taking the powerhead off is relatively easy if you can get the bolts out. Be sure to order the gaskets for the powerhead/exhaust too. Also, if the motor got hot you might have restart problems. I had a water broken and now my engine has big trouble on restarts. I'm thinking it's a head gasket.
