I have been trying to solve an

I have been trying to solve an issue that some of you have been helping with . I backed the sensor off of the head to see if it would affect the temp gauge as I am not sure they are working right . The sensers that is . It is barely off the head and runs in the normal range but the alarm busses off and on no matter what the temperature is . It used to only buzz when it ran hot per the gauge . Now it is non stop on / off . The engine runs great though . I ran it for about 3 hours with nothing but the alarm issue . Can anyone help ??We are a volunteer fire dept that has limited funds to fix it . .

"Ray, I had the same problem with a 1983 115 Hp. The temp sensor kept sounding the entire time the engine was running. Sometime the pitch was high and then low. I figured it was a bad ground of some sort. Checked each of the temp sensors and one was bad. The temp sensors are just a tiny bi-metal cool that when they get to a certian temp they open up and make contact with the head (ground) and set the alram off. They can wear out and prematurely start opening up and completing the circuit setting off the alarm. The new replacement sensors actually have two wires coming out them, one to the horn and a separate ground so the sensor is more self contained and hopefully less likely to repeat the problem."
