"Can someone please help me with this? We get on the water and the boat (cold or hot) will not accellerate when I throttle in. Idle is ok, but if I put the throttle 1/4 way down it will just act like its not picking up, then after about 3-4 minutes it takes off and runs like a mad ape and will continue to be ok until the boat is put back into neutral. If I leave the engine at a low idle but still in gear it does not have this problem. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated."

"linkage adjustments, there sh

"linkage adjustments, there should be approx 1/4 movement in lever after selecting gear before the throttle will pick up revs. maybe needs adjusting to much lag in it?"

"Thank you for your help, look

"Thank you for your help, looks like the linkages are moving ok and set properly. If i finally get it to pick up speed and then back off, as long as i leave it in gear (at an idle) it will still blast out of the hole, if i stick it in neutral it will then take it 3-4 minutes to pick up. if i throttle all the way it will just die."

"verified the linkage distance

"verified the linkage distance on the trigger link rod and it is right on... if the trigger is sending signal does it go thru the spark advance module before going to the switch box? could this be the problem or maybe a timing issue starting at the trigger assy? I had a new stator installed but I had the same problem before..the engine does run alot smoother so it fixed one problem but not this one. I'm not familar with boat engines but does the linkage move the trigger assy into time (advance/retard)? If so, I probably cannot test the trigger advance without the correct meters, is this correct?"

"also as u have explained, yes

"also as u have explained, yes the timing module should advance before the actual linkage opens the throttle of the carbs in the first quarter throttle when checking linkages as motor engages gear see how much movement is in the timing advance before throttle acceleration is felt. check to see the timing advance module is not sticking also. wioth the engine OFF select full throttle and see if you can freely move the timing advance module by hand. i wouldnt think timing is out seeing as it does get up and plane when it does get going."

checked the trigger with the t

checked the trigger with the throttle all the way down and movement by hand is free and easy. Is the trigger a one shot deal (either working or not)? i'm convinced that it has to be something with advancement and not sure of all the things involved to make that system work.
Thanks for your help

checked the throttle movement.

checked the throttle movement..there is 1 1/4 inches of movement before the trigger is moved..not sure if this helps anything..the linkage seems to be moving as you described earlier..
