150 Verado lost gauges after recal

"Just had this motor in for a calibration update after receiving a notice from Merc. Hopefully it cured the false alarm issues. But now none of my analogue gauges are working. Everything appears to still be connected properly and the gauges power up at keyup, but they don't operate.

Do the gauges have to be set up in the cal? If so, I will have to haul the boat back into town to correct and reflash the cal. Closest dealer doesn't do Verados. Just called the servicing dealer and they "weren't sure"."

"Grant, maybe you should try and get ahold of Merc directly. The Verado's are a relatively new creation and even the service manual doesn't go into the "assessories"...."

"Grant, I'm sure you are right about that - these were set up to use the new Smartcraft gauges, something must translate those (signals) into something that analog gauges can read - so I would suspect you are right, something got blown away when they reflashed.

Sounds more and more like we are discussing computers instead of outboards with these new gadgets they are using

Can you elaborate on that please? Are you referring to the reflash procedure itself or just a possible open connector?

There is an "analogue gauge interface module" at the console that looks like it just runs off the same databus that connects to the smartcraft guages(if present). Everything is connected OK there. None of the gauges connected to the module are working(tach,fuel level,trim/tilt). They just bottom out at keyup. Well, tilt goes to max tilt.

This brings up another question. There are outputs from the interface module for water temp and oil pressure. Could these gauges be added without having to modify the calibration?

Another odd thing is that I had the alarm go off(constant) with no obvious cause on a number of occasions. The engine went into a reduced power mode each time. Yet the dealer says there were no stored DTCs??

"Just read up on the smartcraft guages. Looks like there is an initial calibration procedure for each gauge even when using the smartcraft setup. For example, how else would the control module know the fuel tank capacity or trim/tilt range? Of course you can do this yourself if you have the smartcraft gauges.

Looks like I'll have to bring the boat back to the dealer to have this corrected."

I have not ordered the service manual for this motor yet(2006 150 Verado). Please email me with particulars. Thanks.

They said they had to go throu

They said they had to go through the initial setup procedure. Looks like everything works now. I'll find out next spring.
