150 optimax issues In need of help

I have a pair of 1999 Mercury

I have a pair of 1999 Mercury Optimax 150's. Problem I am having is that when you turn the key on the fuel pump won't turn on. When I was to run jumper to the fuel pump it will turn on. All fuses are good. Any thoughts?

Sounds like you have either 1&

Sounds like you have either 1) a bad connection somewhere in the harness between motor and key switch 2) bad ground where you key is (console or shifter) 3) bad key switch or 4) even a bad connection back on the engine end.

Check your entire harness for rotted/pinched/cut/knicked/rubbed wires...

"Hi,
I have a 1999 Mercury Optimax that i stupidly reversed the battery polarity on when replacing the battery after winter layup. This burnt out the loom from starter solenoid to alternator. I am waiting to have the loom replaced but in the meantime I have been warned that i may have damaged the ECU.
My question is can i replace the ECU with a second hand unit or does it need to be new and specialy programed for my engine.
I am concerned that the shop that is doing the job is just trying to boost the final bill
