150 fast strike runs sometimes!

i have ranger boat with 94 Johnson 150 fast strike. One day it will fire right up, no issues. If it fires once on boat ramp seems to run all day with no issues starting and runs great! Then next day after sitting in garage no start (or backed in at the lake). It will fire with starter (while starter cranking) let off (key returns to run position) then...nothing. Neutral safety switch seems to work, kill switch operating correctly. Ignition switch? Key chirp also normal, no alarm. Like I said runs awesome when it decides it wants to. Oh and when it does light, never hard to start, fires right up first turn of the key. Any ideas?

My 1988 150Hp Johnson had a similar problem. Turned out I had a bad ignition switch. Also check that the battery connections are tightand clean. Also look at the wiring harness. May have some corrosion. I found wire in my harness that the corrosion wicked it way up the wire. From the outide the wire looked good. Performed an ohms check with a volt meter and found the wires had high ohms. Ended up replacing the harness with one from CDI.

Ignition switch did not fix problem!

Check your spark when it won't start. It should jump a 7/16 " open air gap on a tester.
