15 hp mariner missing

"Hi, first time poster. I need all the help I can get. Here goes. I have a mariner tiller, Serial # OC154189. It has been in my family since new 1988 (I think). It ran great for the first 15 years, but now it has been nothing but problems. The biggest trouble is at idle speeds it will start to miss. As the day goes on it will more and more. Last summer I lost spark in one plug and had to head back over a mile running on one. Since then I have replaced plugs, spark box, and both coils. This spring it ran good the first three times out now this last time it started missing again. I have had it. Looking at trading off to a 25 hp four stroke Yami. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks"

"The idle setting is off. Open the idle screw 1/4 turn, then adjust it, in gear, after the motor is warmed up.

I turned the idle screw back 1

I turned the idle screw back 1/4 turn. It is kind of an intermittent problem so I will have to wait till the weekend to properly test it on the water. While I was working on it I did notice that the heat transfer seal was leaking water. I ended up replaceing both seals. It did look like there was water getting into the exhaust and in turn into the cyilenders. Could this have caused the missing?
