Have a 1995 or 96 15 hp Mariner outboard and would like to replace impeller. Removed 3 bolts and the casing haves seperated a bit and stopped. Looks like maybe shifting linkage is holding it from seperating . How can i complete this seperation and would anyone know which impeller kit to purchase>? thanks.

look for a linkage near the carburetor on the " port " side of the motor.-------If electric start it will help to remove the starter.

I'll post a couple of pics to point out what Racerone is talking about.

The shift shaft is (clipped/pinned) in between the ears of a shift cam. The clip is released and removed easily with a pair of needle nosed pliers. You grasp the clip on it's extreme left hand side (as you are looking at it) and kinda pry "upwards" - that unlocks it from the linkage rod. Then you pull it back towards you to release the shift shaft.

It may sound kinda funky, but once you have done it once you will understand what I'm trying to explain.

Once the shift shaft is free, replace the clip to keep the rest of the linkage where it belongs. If you disassemble it any further it can be a real pain to get it all back together.

Also as noted, if you have electric start you pretty much have to remove the starter to get at things.

So one picture shows where to look, the second is what you will see. It's pretty tight.

Thanks all. I got it off and case seperated. Was dying to see the impeller condition as water only spurted out of the small hole inconsistantly .The impeller was still there but several of the fins were warpped one direction and remainders either straight or the other direction. ODD? THANKS AGAIN..
