i have a rope start 15hp that was very hard starting and would quit very often at high speed.now i have been playing around with mercs since my racing days ]60's[ so they are not new to me.to try to solve the problem i rebuilt the carb. with no success did it again with a new kit same problem ,then i notice that the float had no hook to pull the needle valve ,there is none listed in the parts/repair manual so i made one out of a cigarette lighter sping and every thing was fine forever after.all i could figure that the viton tip was jamming and the fuel pump couldn't open it.maybe someone can tell me why merc eliminated the hook ."
