140hp with Power pack??

hi so recently i bought a 1983 ( i think i will have to check it) evinrude 140hp it came with original control box etc but i compared it to my 115hp and my 135 starflite and i noticed it was a bit different 1st it does not have coils just a plack box mounted to the back exhaust plate it says "surefire es 1000' (if im right i did not have a good look at it-from one side wire coming in from under the flywheel( i think) to this box and from the other side ht lead going to spark plugs. can someone please tell me what this is? i have not started this motor yet as i did not have enough time. 2nd thin is that it does not have 'bubble back exhaust' as i heard that 135+ motors have bubble back so i dont know if its a 140hp as the seller said. so can someone what is this engine actually.

Somebody has done a lot of " work / cobbling" here , no surprise to me that it turned out not to be an 83 model..--------My advise is to look for something better.-My advise is to find a proper dealer who sells motors with some sort of warranty.
 
I think I'd run from that one. Looking at the rust on the flywheel teeth and top nut, that hasn't been started for a while. And that coil surely isn't stock is it Racer?
 
I think he bought it already... Insure it and sink it!! You'll have to row the boat out to deep water though.:rolleyes:
 
thanks for the info, yes i already bought it, will give it a try starting it on muffs as i have the control box and key if it does not work and i cant fix it i will sell it for parts, does anyone know what the surefire es1000 is? iv seen a couple of these as a mod but dont really know what they are
