"Gidday all....
can anyone has a guess as to the possible cause of a clanking noise my motor is making. Sounds like a small flat metal plate in a tumble dryer,a continuous irregular slight clanking. It sounds like its comming from the gearbox / prop area but cant nail down the exact location . The local Service Guy just shrugged his shoulders and said " I Dunno". he said being an old motor, It could be anything.Tried the old Bush Stethiscope... still cant nail it down.
It doesnt have any effect on performance, she goes like a clapper, starts every time. at idle, to mid to upper mid throttle shes definately there, but when planning....its either drownerd out by the engine or is not as loud.... probably the former. any help would be greatly"

"Joe, It sounds EXACTLY like that is the problem. but checked, and all latchs are nice and tight... but that is the EXACTLY the kind of sound it is making.
Jamie, Hard to tell but the more you throttle up the less evident it is, Still there, but hard to tell over the revs. Just dont want to blow the bugger up. Like I said.... runs real good ...."

Maybe one of the seals around

Maybe one of the seals around the inner lower exhaust housing blew out or came apart. Pull the lower and see if anything is bouncing around in there.

If the noise frequencey goes u

If the noise frequencey goes up and down with revs you can isolate it to engine or lower unit.

It could be anything from a exhaust filler in the megaphone that is clanking inside the exhaust system????

Jamie / Dave Thanks Very much
