Had my boat serviced last week as would only start now and then, the service guy replaced the powerpacks, and she started for him every time. took it home, started ok every day for five days, took it out on the water, ran like a gem ! up on the plane for 3-4 kms, you beauty !, started 4-5 times after we had fished out there. put her on the trailer for home, got home... bugger wouldnt start ??????? sounds like it sort of got spark the first 2 cranks, as wanted to start, but then just cranked over and over ... nothing ?????? does anyone have an idea what I should be looking for ???/ thanks in advance"

"here i go..again....
the 78 140's...had enormous prob,w/high ring pistons....the dowl pin,was blank drilled, meaning, when heating up,..it could drop down, allow piston rings to spin, catching on finger ports...the fix,was to inst 'stop'drilled pistons, and rings were set way lower, where they should have been...in or around 1980,that,and to this day,..has been the single most overhauled engine i have ever dealt with in 31 yrs...
i love those 140's,...they r actually excellent engines, once repaired..here is a prime example,of people fixing one hole, and ltr fixing another ,..etc...this,is prob,my main reason, for not fixing one hole at a time..
in the early 80's,we were fixing prob 3-4 a month,at a modest shop,in cedar park,tex.
i can almost guarantee u,your eng has been overhauled,at least........once.
unless u bought in new..
my point,is to ck your compression on that motor, yesterday."
