140 evinrude stuck

narrow escape

New member
Hello all, as you can see Im new to this form, I have a little experience with small engine rebuilds but not so much with outboards. I picked up a late 70,s early 80,s 140 evinrude that has been sitting for 7 years. Got it home and pulled the heads thinking I was going to find corrosion on the cylinders, but they were nice and greasy like the engine was fogged before storage. I'm wondering how to acess the crank, not sure where to start. I don't mind throwing some money into this motor but I don't want to do anything stupid. I tried searching youtube for a teardown vid, but no luck. thanks for reading. kevin

Remove the lower unit and see if the motor will turn.-------------Outboard motors usually sit around for years and years for a reason.

It would be easy to determine this if I was standing beside the motor.-----Remove the lower unit and see if the motor will turn.
