"Hi, I have just bought a 135hp 1986 mercury outboard thats on back of a 1986 Gradey it runs good in every throddle postion except idle. I haven't checked the compression yet myself but I was told it was 130- 135 psi on all cylinders. The engine is quiet like it isn't real loose, knocking and slapping. engine Runs STRONG!! And sounds Good. The motor was and oil injected engine but I was told to mix the oil in the gas they didn't use the the oil injection part they mixed there oil in the gas. Where would you suggest to get started at ? check compression and if ok pull the carbs ? are the carbs adjustable ? Thanks for your time

"if the engine sat before you bought it likely the carbs/ idle jets are dirty and need to be cleaned. If you wish to try adjusting the carbs read this

I would also check for spark on each plug wire with a timing light, compare all cyl's at idle."

Thanks JB. The engine has had the oil injection system taken off of it. Could anything having to do with the oil injection system being removed from engine cause a idle problem ? I guess whats really on my mind is...... could removing the oil injection system cause a Vacum leak or somthing like that if everything isn't disconnected and capped ? Thanks for your time and help.
