need some info:
looking at a 79 glastron boat with a 79 johnson 125hp ob.

the problem:
last time owner was out. stopped boat then couldn't get it to move forward or reverse.
said he did a wire around to get it running.
say that it needs hydro electric drive replaced.

any ideas about this problem?
what about a replacement hydro electric drive, costs availability, ease of replaced, testing.

also should this boat be avoided.

The hydro electric shift system existed ONLY between the years of 1968 to 1972. Need I say more?

The HYDRO-ELECTRIC shift was very reliable in its day. Today few people want to work on them.They are elegantly simple to work on.Used units are available and E-BAY is a good place to look.I would say the shift piston is stuck due to dirt in the bore ( broken strainer screen ) If the boat is cheap go for it.
