"I just purchased a 1987 17 foot Cobia bow rider, with a 120 motor. The boat is mint for the year, but the engine was ran with out oil. I was thinking of a crate motor, instead of rebuilding the one it has.
Is there a larger motor I could bolt in , with out a major problem? Say a 140, or even a 6 cyl? I would like it to be a screamer.Thanks"

"If you did manage to stuff a 455 Olds in a 17' and it did not sink, plan on a extended visit at the local ER. A 3.0 will give you plenty of speed. Dont waste half your HP by sticking a pump on it.
There should be a sticker somewhere listing the max HP recomended for that boat. Exceed that and you may see your boat hauled to the scrap yard as you are hauled to the ER. Or, law inforcement hauling it to the impound yard.
Want a boat that will suck your eyeballs to the back of your skull, get one designed for that purpose. Sumthin like a 21' drag boat with bored, stroked, blown 460.
