"I recently purchased this 120
"I recently purchased this 120 hp VRO Johnson. It was not working at the time and I needed to change one of the coils. After changing the defective coil, the motor was running fine when I had it attached to a 5 gallon (mixed 50 to 1).
The boat is equiped with a 36 gallon gas tank and oiler. I drained the gas tank (it had water in it) and added 10 gallon of fresh gas. When I took it out for a ride, it seemed to be running fine on low speed, however, when I accelarated to a higher speed, it died out.
I reconnected to my 5 gallon of mixed gas, it ran okay for a bit then again when I accelarated, it died out again with a strange noise.
I drained the carburators which contained water, 3 of the spark plugs had rust on them (previous to trying it out, the plugs were fine).
Now it rotates about half way and jams. There is good compression in the 2 upper pistons, some compression in the bottom ones but not as strong.
Recently found out the previous owner had blown a gasket, the water got into the cylinder and he had parked it like this over the winter months. The motor was seized, they lubricated it and managed to unseize it, changed the gasket and left it.
Any idea as to what kind of problem I am looking at ? ? ?"
