"I have a 1970 1150 with a short shaft. I want to make it a long shaft. I also have a 1978 90 horse with a long shaft that i picked up for $150 with controls. Will the 90 and 115 be interchangable to create one long shaft from the two? It has a new cdi ignition but the stator wiring is shot. I think pulling the flywheel, resplicing the stator wires and checking it may be all that is needed elecrically on the 90 but the plugs were not in it and I don't know how long they have been out. When I look inside I see what looks like carbon build up but I think I may see rust to. I can spin the motor over by hand so it is not locked up. Will removing the head allow me to see what is going on inside to see if it is worth trying to get running? If the power head is ruined it easily has $150 worth of good parts and I may get my long shaft conversion for free!"

"John, the shortshaft(15&#

"John, the shortshaft(15") 1150 is a rare beast. You might just sell it outright for a very good price. They were high performance, and in demand. The model is 1150SS

The 90 HP longshaft(20") has a lower unit that will fit the 1150. You will need to change the midsection as well. It probably makes sense to just put the 1150 powerhead onto the 90 motor. Remove the 90 LU first, to make it easier."

"Thanks Chris, would you care

"Thanks Chris, would you care to give me an idea of what a very good price might be. I need a long shaft motor but would hate to convert a rare motor into something that I can buy everyday. If it is worth more than I have in it I would consider selling it to someone who is seeking that particular motor."

"John, You might lurk over at the ScreamandFly.com

That is a discussion board of high performance gys and gals. They mostly talk about V6 motors, but occasionally discuss 150SS motors."
