Ran great for first 8 times out (just bought 3 months ago and motor has estimated 50hrs on it-garage stored and looked damn near new); no issues.
Than, on trip #9,
a. Started running rough at idle.
b. No power to pull a skier up.
c. Ran at full speed hoping to "clear it out'" but after 1 minute I felt a hesitation. 5 seconds later, and in 5 more seconds it backed down and wouldn't idle, like someone had pinched the gas line.
Thought for sure it was a fuel problem. Once home, I dumped my water separator and once I got it started (at home and on the trailer), it ran (idled) fine for 10 minutes, high RPM or low.
Week later, fired it up (on trailer) and same problem. Tried new water separator and carb cleaner to no avail. Greased the zirks on on top of the distributer and cleaned the not so dirty distibuter contacts. All the plugs looked OK; mostly wet except the very bottom one looked dry.
Longer story shorter...
I can use the cold start throddle to get it to idle like crap at high RPMS, than tap the electronic choke button quickly and repeatidly about 5 to 7 times, than the idle speed takes off until I back down the cold start throddle. It will idle fine for a little while (2 to 7 minutes) than die. Did this 3 separate times for the same results.
Not sure if it's something electronic, or if the slapping of the choke mechanism is vibrating something temporarly loose in the carbs.
One more note: when spraying the carb cleaner in the top carb, the RPMs would excellerate until I backed down the cold start throddle, but it would than die within 2 seconds.
