115 rebuild water trouble

I've just completed rebuilding my 115 inline 6 and when I attached a water feed and sent water through the hose I was getting water through the pee hole. After starting and running, shuting down and restarting a few times, I went to check the side cover for temperature and it was hot, so I checked the pee hole and there was not any water coming through. Shut it down and let it cool, started it up about an hour later and still no water. The motor popped a connecting rod cap, which is why I rebuilt it. Cleaned and checked all the block covers before reassembly, and replaced all power head gaskets. I did not check the lower end or water pump before reassembling the power head. Could some of the blown chunks worked down to the water pump impeller through the exhaust?
I don't believe I have any debri in the power head, but I'm not sure how the exhaust funnels through the lower end, which is why I'm asking if some debri got into the impeller.

Thanks for any help!

Will drop lower end today to inspect water pump, did not think of a popit valve, but I'll check the assembly page to see where thats at and check it also.
Tanks for your feed back!

when you drop the lower unit, put a hose on the water tube where the pump would connect. It should push out the pee hole, if not, you have a blockage.

I can not believe that a new waterpump was not installed as part of a rebuild.------------The cause / reason for the rebuild must be determined , otherwise you just have to do the job again.

Nothing but the impeller was damaged in the water pump, but this is not why the power head needed rebuilding.
To 'guyjg' my motor does not have a popit valve, those must have been on earlier models.
Mine is '88 I think the last year they made the inline 6.

Thanks racerone, I appreciate your feed back. They did not have an auto oil shut down either, at least not from the Lund dealer I bought the package from back in '89. My first rebuild was melting the 3rd cylinder after running out of oil in the auto feed. I found out after that this was a common problem for the inlines. Don't remember te dealer telling me to watch the oil carfully.

It's been working OK as long as I keep my eye on it.

On the gear assembly, I made the mistake of twisting the spline on the lower end near the water pump and accidently put it in gear.
I was rotating it back and forth to get it back into neutral so I can re-install the lower end, but can't seem to get it to dis engage.
I pulled it off with it in neutral and would like to re-install it in neutral. Any suggestion?
Thanks for your help.

Throw the autoblend away as far as you can !!!----------------Put control in forward then make sure lower unit is in forward.---Assemble and test shift function before installing all the fasteners.

The plastic gear on the auto blend would strip, resulting in no oil to the engine and are prone to doing this.Search this forum for opinions on the system.
