James dont forget. Fuel tank vent. Not a wise idea to run without Fuel/Oil= Scored Cylinders. Bryan dont starve the carbs.Follow James trouble shooting check list.Bryan your best bet would be to get yourself a seloc online manual for that 1977 of yours. Its a great help.

"O.K. this is what I have done so far-I replaced the gas tank from metal to plastic, I replaced all the hoses, I sprayed all the carbs with sea foam deep creek, and I also bought the Mercury Outboard Shop Manual. Is there anything else. I cleaned the screen in the gas system, It just seems like when it's running it wants to go but something is stopping it from kicking in."

Hey bryan did you check your fuel pump. There is a screen on top of your fuel pump. Rebuild kits are about $20- $30 bucks and as you can see now you can use your manual to show you how easy it realy is to rebuild.

"have you tried to inrichen the carbs? if too lean motor will not rev under load. start by opening the idle screws 1/4 turn counter clock wise on all three carbs, if not enough go another 1/4 turn. most of the time if the carbs are too lean motor won't rev, problem sometimes too lean on water hose and not under load."

Bryan next time your out and you loss speed. Try and squeeze your primer bulb. If your motor accelerates. It's time to rebuild your fuel pump.Or you can try and run with your fuel cap open.Fuel tank vent could be clogged with wasps nest.It happened to me. Motor will tend to run a bit hotter with lack of fuel oil mixture. I find that there is no warning or alarms on those motors.Bryan I use preimium fuel with Quicksilver 2 stroke @ a 40:1 mixture.Very little smoke. 4500 - 4800 rpm WOT.on a 16' Tri hull bow rider 17p 13 3/4". It's a heavy boat.
