Hope someone can help. I am running down the river at night useing a Q beam out of my adapter for about 15 minutes. Boat is running great, then I hear a clicking sound in about 15 seconds the motor shuts down. I wait five minutes and try to crank and it acts like the battery is dead. Call a freind to tow me in and about 15 minutes later it cranks right up and I put in gear and it shuts down. Got it out of the water and first check compression and its 120 on all four. Crank it up and idles fine then kick in gear and hear a slight tick and I shut it down. Can it be the battery? power pack?

Thanks in advance!

I have the exact same engine. My engine would flat out drop dead while trolling for 30 mins. I noticed the GPS voltage was dropping to 10.5 vdc when it occurred. The 3 year old battery had a dying cell--it would not take more than 30% charge. The acid in the cell was brown and full of particles. Replaced the battery w/a 650 CCA Start/Deep cycle type and never had a problem since.

My thought is the battery is weak and the charge system can't keep up w/the spotlight which draws enough current to draw the battery down. Check each cell in the battery for weakness. I use a 5 ball battery charge tester...it works great. If any cell only floats 4 balls buy a QUALITY new Start/Deep cycle Battery and the spotlight won't run the battery down.

Check gear oil and the magnet on the drain plug !!!

Its the lower unit. Pulled the drain plug and it had water in it, about 8 oz. with gray oil. Very little metal fragments. Do I replace the unit? Can I rebuild it myself or have someone else do it? I am mechanically inclined.
