When the engine is raised to the travel position it will leak out about a 1/16 of a cup of mixed fuel from the cowling---- any ideas??

No sweat, this is normal. Carb's have breather holes and juice will weep thru there when motor is tilted. Don't plug those holes in the carbs... Can't answer why, but don't.

Your best bet is to disconnect

Your best bet is to disconnect the fuel and let the carburetors run dry.---- no more leakage and fire hazard.

Would not recommend doing this, the carbs would run dry and you'd have no lube in the motor as it winds down from idle.
You'd have to kill the motor at the precise point before fuel is done for...
Rather use drain screws on carbs with a cloth if this "leak" is such an issue.

Just occurred to me that the float level might be too high?

I've seen many a motor, various makes and models, that has this symptom of leaking fuel when tilted to max height. Then again, I've also seen the same makes and models that does not do this. Both my motors does this, one being a Sea Pro 55 pre-mix tiller (1998 vintage) and other being an Offshore 115 AutoLube (1997 vintage). Maybe these owners are running carbs dry?

Makes sense that manufacturers would not design them with this problem due to liability issues.

Would a breather pipe connected to the overflow hole solve the problem?

Hope you find a solution to this messy and potentially dangerous situation. Let me know what the best outcome was.

"JB maybe you should either wear your watch on the other wrist or stop worrying about the time as you are wasting prescious beer my friend. oh and on the subject or the fuel from the carbwhen tilted, mine does it, its ok stops having stale fuel sit in the carb which can varnish up if left to long."
