"1985 power trim and tilt will

"1985 power trim and tilt will not lift the engine. the unit will trim but seems week on power. elect. motor does not sound like it is being loaded. is this a serviceable repair with a rebuild kit, are there kits available? do you have any quick fixes or probable problems thanks"

Have you checked the relay's contacts? If they're corroded, a voltage drop will occur resulting in weak operation...

Could be a voltage drop at a wire connection point too...

Try bypassing the relay's, place battery power directly to the trim motor's leads and check the action.

If still the same, could be corroded commutator or brushes on pump motor itself.

Is the manual operation bypass screw in all the way? Pressure could be slipping passed and causing poor action...

"OK GUYS I still need some help!!! I have reviewed the service manual. The trim and tilt performs every operation it should with the exception of the tilt. The unit will hold for the shallow drive under power, reverse lock holds and the unit will trim in and out. The unit will hold position for days without any drift down. The trim out seems a little weak but will work if you take the throttle back to idle. The tilt will work only if you assist it. What is the most probable cause."
