"Hi! My battery does not charg

"Hi! My battery does not charge. I have checked the stator, it puts out 30+ volts ac (seems good to me, goes up with rpm). My boat wiring was messed up from the previous owner and I have been working on it since I bought it. I have 5 wires from the voltage regulator. 2 yellow from stator, a grey to tach (which isn't working), a purple that has 12V when key is on, and a red that I thought was the charge wire coming out of regulator. When the engine is running and the regulator disconnected the tach starts working (grey and purple wires were left connected). The red wire coming out of the regulator went to the terminal block, connected to another red wire that goes to the starter side of the solenoid. I thought it should go on the battery side, so I switched it. This now gives 12.3V (battery voltage) to the red wire going to regulator. I thought this would be right, as there should be diodes in the rectifier that allow charge to go out only. That red wire also joins a red/purple wire and is fused (near starting solenoid). Wired this way, all wires connected back to terminal block, with engine running I have good voltage on yellow wires, battery voltage (12.3V) on red wire, and my tach doesn't work. I would appreciate any insight into this."

"The factory manual is a wonde

"The factory manual is a wonderful resource. It not only shows all of the correct wiring, it also tells you how to check the diodes which sound bad in your case. Ebay is a good source."
