115 hp v4 wont go into reverse

I have a 115 hp evinrude v4 that shifts into neutral and forward just fine but it wont go into reverse there is no grinding it went in revere then forward five minutes later I cant get it to go in reverse it feels stiff Any help?

A little history is needed.... did this unit ever shift properly previously, and if so, what has happened between then and now?

What year is that engine... model number?
