Hi I have a 1971 mercury 115-

Hi I have a 1971 mercury 115-hp that is not firing. I have just got this boat and dont know a whole lot about it. I pulled coil wire from distributer and grounded it to see if there were any sparks as the engine was turned over but there was no sparks. could anyone direct me in the right direction on where to start? thanks george
