"just got the boat tuned with new plugs and w/p. Have not ran the boat for 4 months.
Had problem this weekend, engine taking about 10 minutes to start. Never had this problem. Had to choke engine for a while.
After running fine for 30 minutes, i started it again and it took 10 minutes. When i tried to put engine in gear, it would stall. Happened about five time. When it started, it would not run pass 2300rpm, so i had to let engine run at low speed. Increasing throttle will make engine shut off. Seems like engine was misfiring like when a spark plug is loose. After 30 mins of running at low speed I increase throttle and boat suddenly ran fine. Do I have a clogged carburetor or is the fuel pump not working properly? Is it due to bad gas b/c it has been sitting for too long? Do the plugs have to be gapped or do they come gapped PLEASE ADVISE"

"Could be both. I would first check fuel pressure and see if that is positive, If so, I would proceed to carb cleaning. Both fairly simple and well worth it for future peace of mind."

"Hey Jack,

How would I go about checking the feul pressure for positivity?

And to clean the carbs, how do i do that?

Do i need to get a repair manual and read it over? Or is it a simple process?"

"Books are always good (some anyway) I guess if you can determine which fuel line goes to the carb from the fuel pump, remove the line and crank the engine. See if it pumps good flow.. Caution - raw gas is involved so be careful of sparks etc. I like to do this check outside with a water hose handy or fire ext. I would start there first -"
