So I pulled the biggest bone head move of my life today! I changed the oil on my 2010 merc 115 fourstroke and somehow managed to not notice that I left the gasket on from the old filter. Needless to say she ran without oil. After it dumped got I got a some beeps, I think two. I ran it for a few minuits while I popped the cover off and noticed oil dumping out. shut it off and went back to shore with trolling motor. The motor sounded fine and did not seize I dumped the oil and there was about a liter left.there was a small amount of very fine looking aluminium shavings in it for a second or two. I am going to refill and test it tomorrow. What should I look for?

Chances are it will be okay. Not the best thing for it obviously, but it sounds like it has protected itself from a complete melt down. There probably isn't a huge amount you can do without taking the head off to check the cam lobes, cylinder bores and rings, and the crankshaft out to see the bearings. Once simple thing you can do though is put a torque wrench on the flywheel nut and see how much force is takes to turn the motor over compared to the factory spec as well as doing a compression test on it. You will likely be able to tell from the sound if anything has been badly affected. I hope it goes well for you!

Put oil in it, fire it up, check for oil pressure, and pray a lot! You might be okay after all. If you're not lucky, you'll hear a rapping sound when you rev her up.
