In the process of changing the

In the process of changing the water pump for the 1st time I see the drive shaft has been scored where it sits in the top of the water pump housing. It is not real bad but I also notice corrosion on top of the bearing housing. The engine has 200 hundred hours and seemed to be cooling fine prior to the 200 hour change. Should I be concerned? What type of play should the driveshaft have? Thanks for your time.

"If by play, you mean sideways

"If by play, you mean sideways play, that would be due to a worn upper bearing/bushing under the water pump. Any play that would allow the driveshaft to score into the water pump housing would be too much."

"Note that this engine has a 2

"Note that this engine has a 2-piece drive shaft. Take off the pump, and the upper part of the shaft (above gear-housing) may move quite a lot, opposite the old one-piece shafts. Shaft may NOT be split without dismantling the whole gear case. No need to worry, when assembled, the splines in crank shaft will center it up. If pump-housing worn, change pump housing.
Guess this came out after Joe replaced his toolbox with the comp and rocking chair.
