10HP 1962 Leaky Needle Valve Packing Nut

"I just rebuilt the carburetor

"I just rebuilt the carburetor on a 1962 Johnson 10HP QD-23. The high speed needle valve is leaking between the packing nut and the needle. I put in 2 packing washers when I rebuilt it as shown in the OEM parts diagram, but the rebuild kit came with many more packing washers. Should I add another packing washer to stop the leak? I have tightened the packing nut down until the needle is difficult to rotate, but the leak still persists.

There is no cork washer in the

There is no cork washer in the rebuild kit and there was not one when I dissassembled the carb. Someone suggested soaking the fiber washers in oil before installing them to allow them to expand slightly. Not sure about that. This is my first carb. rebuild so I am a little green. Thanks... Tim
