100ESL72R Throttle linkage/Idle Speed problems need help fast please

I was just out today running the motor after doing all the work replacing the impeller and LU oil getting it back in running condition. Let me start by saying I am pretty new to this. While out today I noticed that the controls were REAL STIFF when trying to back down the motor from full speed to idle speed obvious enough that I knew it wasnt right. After running it out for a few minutes at full speed it was even harder to pull the throttle back. Thats when I noticed a problem, after finally getting it to back down when I put it in neutral the idle speed revved up a little then just held the higher idle speed which in turn would "hammer" the gears as it shifted into forward, so needless to say it was back to the trailer. My question is what and where do i need to make adjustments to get this back right. Even at the lowest i could pull the lever back before dropping to neutral the motor seemed to be running faster (7 knots roughly) (normally its closer to 4-5 if my memory serves me right). Its my grandpas old motor and since his passing I have been taking care of trying to get it running when I thought I was good I had this problem today.

Sorry the post is kinf of long but I always see people asking for mor information so I was trying to describe as best I can. I plan to take down to the lake tomm and sort this out if possible but with my limited knowledge im not sure where to begin exactly beyond the throttle controls on the actual engine.

Thank you for any and all input

I would suggest removing the throttle cable at the motor. Thencheck motor throttle linkages for stiffness. If they move ok the problem is with the cable or remote. If they are stiff at the motor you will need to find the cause.

If the motor linkages sheck out ok, It could be that something is loose in the remot or that the cale is damaged or has siezed.

After a little more research the spark advance lever seems to be what is making the remote so hard to pull back when trying to slow down. Its fine going forward though a little delayed before the spark lever seems to react to the remote being advanced up but its not stiff revving up only when coming down. The other side of it is the issues with the high idle speed which has something to do with these levers since it was running fine before. Also I am 95% sure it is at the motor not in the remote if its cable then it would be at the connection for the cable to motor but I dont know what to do or where to start I guess youcould say. I do have access to a image of the cylinder block which shows all the parts I mentioned.

I have found that the throttle arm is not going all the way back and gets stuck before it recesses to the idle speed stop making it idle high. The other issue I'm assuming is the throttle cable, is the spring that lies between the throttle arm and the part that's connected to the cable would that have anything to do with it, I have noticed a little bit of wiggle in the assembly and there is a nut on the outside of the housing, should that be tighter maybe, I can post pics if it would help

any help would be much appreciated in this. I have noticed that it seems to get worse the more the motor gets used in a single day. I tested it yesterday and it ran fine for awhile then when i went back out thats when the spark advance arm started "sticking" not recessing all the way back to the idle stop. and also the remote lever becomes very hard to pull back to a slow idle speed. I have gone in a greased the remote completely. do i need to replace the throttle cable?, a new spring in the throttle lever at the motor?, tighten the housing that linke the throttle lever and the spark advance?, is there some easy way to fix this that im not seeing?

Hi pictures or a small video would help on this one.
I still think your problem could be related to either the linkages on the motor or the remote or the cable.
Did you disconnect the throttle at the motor and see if the assembly on the motor itself still sticks?
