100 hp Mercury Compression Question Knocking Noise

I have a 1988 100hp 2+2, I checked the compression I have 120psi on 3 and 100psi on the other one. Is that bad? When the motor is running it is making a ticking noise.

Not good. Try to remove a cover (intake or exhaust) and take a look inside.

You can only remove the exhaust cover on those.----About 25 bolts.-------This will allow you to see pistons and rings and check for play in bearings.----------I would do that step.---------I do not believe you will like what you see here.
