10 micron pre-filter recommendation

I have a 2005 Seapro with a same model year F150 TRXD Yamaha. I have heard from several that it is a good idea to install a pre-filter on the incoming fuel line to extend the life of the Yamaha filters. I believe there are three, the bowl filter in the front, one on top of the VST tank, and one in the VST tank. Just recently starting having trouble with my motor not reaching full power or throttle, and past posts have pointed to the VST filter. Just curious as to how often these filters should be changed and what model/brand pre-filter would you recommend I install on my boat. Thanks.

For the fuel separator I'd get the big Yamaha 10 micron filter. Yamaha sells a kit that has a stainless steel head with the filter included. The aluminum heads are cheaper but I like the stainless. The bowl filter on the front of the engine is easy to get at, but with a good separator filter ahead of it I don't think it will give you trouble. As for when to change out the VST filters, I'd do it when they give you trouble. Your engine will lose performance when fuel pressure is dropping at higher RPMs. There are also little basket filters in each of the injectors which I'd have serviced/cleaned when you change out the VST filters. If it's only the injectors your pressure will remain at about 40 psi when troubles start.
