"I just bought a "New" 07 Mariner 15hp 2str standard model. I was wondering where the motor draws its air from? The housing is well sealed, the only hole I can see is a small drain hole. My Tohatsu has an air vent in the upper rear of the cover."

"Mark I have been working on small Mercs for years and own a 15 horse and a pair of 9.9's.

They are great little motors but you should put aside any ideas about getting more performance with them.

Yes, definately keep it tuned and even run a high flow prop (such as Solas etc with a replacable hub), but aside from that (which only serves to allow the motor to run at it's potential and burn gas a little better) there is NOTHING you can do to these motors that produce any "noticable" performance improvement.

And yes, I have tried just about everything on the market for different guys over the years. The one noticable difference has been the removal of money from their wallet

"I have a 1991 15 horse, and it's the same way. I never really thought about it, as to where the air is getting it, but have never had an issue and the motor is approaching 2000 hours of use - never even rebuilt the carb - just normal seasonal maint..."
