posting for a friend...this is the info that i have. he bought the boat recently. po said it had been sitting for a while. he drained all old gas /oil and changed plugs. boat ran fine... while fishing one day the motor shut off and would not start back up. with the switch in the on position it would randomly engage the starter.(weird i know )thinking maybe a bad switch he replaced.still the same problem with motor shutting off and will not crank. after 15 min or so it cranks and runs fine no pattern to when it will shut off. went through fuel lines, filters, high pressure reservoir look clean. put a gauge after the high pressure filter. steady 38 psi....im thinking cam position sensor...how do you test

Assuming you have a top notch battery which is fully charged.... having the electric starter randomly engage off and on, that is usually due to a loose or tight but dirty cable/wire... OR... a miss-adjusted safety switch inside the control box. Jiggling the throttle/shift handle back and forth would cause the safety switch to make contact (if so, adjust it). Removing, cleaning the cables/wires and re-tightening them would cure a dirty or loose cable problem.

Engine shutting down.....Does pumping the fuel primer bulb affect/cure the problem? If so, look for a fuel leak or failing fuel pump.

Find the black/yellow wire (kill circuit) at the ignition switch and remove it. NOTE that with this wire disconnected, it will be impossibly to shut the engine down via the ignition switch. If this cures the shut down problem, suspect a intermittent short in the power-pack, the ignition switch, or the power-pack itself.

Cam Position Sensor? You'll need to be more specific in what you speak of.

joe, this is a fuel injected 4 stroke...im assuming the cam position sends a signal to ecm to fire the injectors. if it is malfunctioning, no signal is sent therefore the injectors dont deliver fuel to combustion chamber

Nice to see you back Joe. I absolutely know it has been tough.

Suzuki Johnny. First place I would look is at the harness to the engine basically up at the control box.
This engine MUST have +12 volts present at the EMM to operate. It sounds like there might be a loose +12v wire in the control box causing engine to shut down, and also intermittently shorting to the starter solenoid pick circuit. Look at the terminals on the back of the ignition switch and make sure they are not touching each other.
I saw one switch where the terminal was swaged onto the back of the switch, and the swage was loose, causing the terminal to rotate, and make contact with the terminal next to it.

1. Turn key to ON. You should hear the main relay click, and you should hear the HP fuel pump run for about ten seconds.

2. Find any gray wire that is easily probable with a voltmeter. Usual place is at the ignition coils, or at the HP fuel pump connector.
Measure voltage on that gray wire...should be +12v with key on.

3. Find White wire going from engine to harness, and eventually up to the control box. That should have +12v on it also.
Be aware that the wires change color due to the J/E harness adapted to the Suzuki motor. White on Suz is +12v. Red is +12v on J/E.
When switch is ON, gray wire feeds power back to the engine.

You will do very well to pick up a factory service manual, as this is a different animal.

You will not have a cam position sensor problem. That throws a code, and will cause a check engine light on the tach.

I think all the problems are in the control box, or ignition switch.

turned out to be fuel line. did not see any obvious bad areas but changing it solved the problem....thanks for the responses guys
