"I have a 2001 Mercury 2 stroke carb. engine on a 17 aquasport. Every now and again on the way back to the ramp where the water is always calm I open the throttle to make sure everything sounds good at max RPM. When I opened the throttle the other day I heard a distinct rattling sound coming from the engine. My mechanic, also the used engine dealor I bought the engine from, set my max RPM at 5150RPM. I typically cruise at 4800 RPM when the water is calm. The engine performed as good and normal as can be the whole day until I heard that rattle right before the ramp. Should I be worried? Any suggestions? Should I get it checked out before I go out again?"
