    Water intrusion in crankcase

    2004 F60 4-stroke (carbureted)

    This motor starts easily with the leg submerged in water, but will crank over and over without starting on the hose/muffs. Is there something about back pressure that would cause this ? :confused:

    2004 F60 4-stroke gear oil

    I noticed the gear oil was black when I changed it. No milky texture just black. sound normal ?

    Well I finally had to repower as my old BF50A was running on borrowed time. Thanks all the good advice over the years. :) I'm now on the Yamaha forum, but I don't find them nearly as helpful... yet

    2005- F60 hard to start

    New to me 2005 F60 yamaha (carburated) is hard to start. sometimes up to 10 attempts before it finally catches. Once warmed up it runs like a dream. Smooth acceleration, perfect idle. I'm going to put some new plugs in this week and see if it helps if not, any suggestions ? :confused:

    BF50A tlit trim

    I some pretty heavy rusting on the unit... A new Honda unit complete is $1150 U.S. approx. There seem to be a few aftermarket products available and wondering I they are any good ?

    Can this BF50A be repaired ?

    As I was cleaning up the boat today, I noticed a crack in the lower unit on the left side of the prop housing. Would this be repairable with J.B.Weld or would it need to be welded ? Thanks in advance for any assistance. Scott

    Honda 50hp vs 45hp

    Aside from the obvious difference of 5hp, are these motors basically the same ? would the 5hp drop be noticeable on a 16' runabout ?

    bf50a power trim

    1999 BF50A Sometimes when the motor is at idle or stopped and you hit the trim switch all you get is an electrical squeal. (no lift) When engine is powered up the trim switch seems to activate fine. Any idea' what I should be looking for ? :confused:

    what years did honda make the bf45 ? would the performance on a low hour motor be similar to a BF50 ?

    Honda 50 max rpm's

    On occasion I have pushed my engine up to 5800 rpms with the stock prop, getting about 30mph on my 16' runabout. Somehow it doesn't feel safe to run the motor at this speed for any length of time. So my question is, am i being overly cautious or are they built to withstand higher sustained...

    Cold starts/ heat tape

    Has anybody tried using a heat wrap tape (for plg.pipes) on their Honda outboards to make for easier cold starts in the winter ? wondering if it work :confused:

    1999 bf50a

    Tell tale hose has split and leaks .. is there a Honda OEM part to replace this or would 3/8" rubber hose work ?

    BF50A Stiff steering

    I've disconnected the steering arm amd the motor swings effortlessly., problem seems to be in the tilt tube,lots of black oily water pukes out. What do you use to clean the tube out ?

    bf50- milky oil

    Just drained the lower unit and oil was white/grey in color. what is the most common failure leading to this situation ? changed the gear oil, will check in a week and if necessary make the repairs ... is prop shaft seal a likely problem ?

    BF50A oil drain plug

    Does anybody know what size socket required to remove the engine oil drian plug ? i have found a few close fits but find it somewhat hard to access. :confused:
