    the driveshaft moves slightly up and down, the bolts on my gearbox are stuck so I haven't been able to check if the preload pin is in there but I assume it is. By mechanical seal do you mean the spring and washers on the top of the drive shaft if so yes I have it assembled correctly.

    around 1/4 to 1/2 inch high, I'm guessing it fell out of the pinion gear so I think I might have figured it out.

    1960 Johnson outboard CD-17, I took the powerhead off and dropped the lower unit to replace an Impeller thats all I did, I am now trying to put the motor back together.

    The Drive shaft on my 1960 Johnson outboard motor is sitting too high and I cant place the powerhead back on. Does anyone know what would cause this, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You
